Brad Hodge is still struggling to become a regular feature in the first team even though he averaged 58.42 after only five matches into his Test career in 2005-06. inspite of this he is yet to return to the Test fold, now featuring prominently in the ODIs only. In 2006-07 he scored 765 Pura Cup runs at 85.00 per innings to earn a spot in the 2007 World Cup team, but watched most of the matches from the confines of the dressing room. An unbeaten 203 against South Africa in Perth meant that he joined his boyhood idol Dean Jones as one of only five Australians to make their a maiden double century. A regular and consistent performer for his state and counties, Hodge's Victorian debut came way back in 1993-94 as an eighteen year old and he almost compiled 1000 runs in the season as he settled quickly at the number four position in the batting line-up. He has been overlooked time and again in favor of first team regulars like Damien Martyn and Michael Clarke. Hodge is especially behind Clarke in the pecking order, although with a national contract and an evolving line-up which now has voids in its batting order, he remains in sight of resuming his short but stunning five-day career. His credentials have been recognized by the Kolkata Knight Riders who have brought him in the side, to replace the Aussie captain Ricky Ponting.
