He was the first left arm seamer for his national team in a long time and that is one of the reasons why he is so special for them. He is tall and slim, and extracts great bounce when the pitch is suitable. He can also swing the ball both ways and is a handful when he bowls a fuller length. He has been instrumental in New South Wales' many a wins, including a first-innings 6 for 27 in their 2004-05 final win over Queensland and 7 for 4 earlier that season when South Australia fell for 29. He made his foray in international cricket in 2001 with the ODI squad first but a shoulder injury cut short his maiden Ashes tour in 2001 after two just matches. He returned for the 2003 World Cup, and later that season finally made his Test debut in 2003-04 against the visiting Indians. He failed miserably against the mighty Indian batting line up and lost his central contract in 2004. His topped the bowling charts with the second highest number of wickets in 2006 ODIs, 46 and since then has become an essential member of the Australian ODI team, but is now facing competition for the first choice left arm seamer’s slot from Mitchell Johnson. He had been bought by the Bangalore Royal Challengers to play in the IPL, but missed the tournament due to an injury.
