Media Release - 07 March 2005 Miss Azra Parveen filed a W.P. No. 356/05 in the Lahore High Court challenging the appointment of Dr Meera Phailbus as Coordinator of Women Wing of the Pakistan Cricket Board. This petition came up for hearing before Mr Justice Ijaz Ahmed, Hon’ble Judge, Lahore High Court on Friday, 4th March, 2005. The petitioner had raised issue of appointment of Dr Meera Phailbus terming it to be illegal and violative of directions contained in a Writ Petition filed earlier bearing No. 25720/98 and the recommendations made pursuant thereto by the Committee constituted by the PCB. This position was controverted by the PCB, which raised fundamental issues of maintainability and locus standi, the Counsel for PCB, Mr Asghar Haider also highlighted the fact that the petitioner has concealed from the Court filing of a Civil Suit titled "Azra Parveen vs Imtiaz Ahmed" which is subjudice in a Civil Court at Lahore. He also stated that a high powered Committee has been setup to review the Constitution of the PCB in order to give effect to the recommendations made by the Committee earlier. The petition was dismissed by the Hon’ble Lahore High Court. However the Court issued directions to the Chairman, PCB to look into the contents of the Writ Petition and pass appropriate orders strictly in accordance with law within a reasonable time.
