Media Release – 13 June 2006 In line with the PCB's focus on reviving cricket at the grassroots level, cricket scholarships have been instituted to educate and benefit talented cricketers emerging out of the National Schools Championship. Scholarships valuing between Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 5000/- per month will be awarded to three promising cricketers from each region. The following mechanism for selection of young cricketers has been devised: (i) PCB Regional Development Managers/Officers (RDMs/RDOs) would be asked to consult and seek recommendations from City/District Cricket Associations for nomination of six potential school cricketers in their region. (ii) Performance of the nominees in the last and current School Championships would carry seven marks out of ten. (iii) Three marks out of the total ten would be given for the nominee’s academic record and his ability to pursue education at college level. (iv) RDMs/RDOs would forward a list of six nominees from each region giving their own comments and preferences for the three cricketers to be selected out of the six. (v) PCB Chairman will constitute a committee to review the recommendations and finalize nominations. As far as possible the RDMs/RDOs would ensure that the selected group comprises a good mix of bowlers/batsmen and wicket keepers. Fitness and fielding skills would also carry weightage.
