Media Release - 20 September 2006
As head of the International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council delegation which visited China at the invitation of Chinese Cricket Association (CCA) from 18-22 September, 2006, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan expressed appreciation for the excellent plan put together by the CCA for promotion of cricket in China.
Initially, three regions have been earmarked by the CCA for launching full-scale cricket activities, namely Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. These centers will be provided cricket grounds, nets and coaching facilities. China already has 1000 Grade-I coaches; however, CCA needs more qualified and experienced coaches.
The Asian Cricket Council and International Cricket Council have pledged financial support for the cause of promotion of cricket in China. PCB will provide technical and financial support on a bilateral basis as well. PCB has already nominated former Test cricketer Rashid Khan for the assignment of coaching upcoming Chinese cricketers.
