Women's cricket wing opened
The Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB), has announced the opening of the women's wing of cricket in
Pakistan. It has been decided that Dr Mira Phailbus (Sitara-e-Imtiaz
and Pride of Performance) is to be Chairperson Women's Cricket, Mr
Imtiaz Ahmed (former Pakistan captain) is to be Adviser Women's Cricket
and Mrs Shamsa Hashmi is to be Secretary Women's Cricket. The program
is an initiative to popularise and upgrade the standard of women's
cricket in Pakistan as per instructions by the International Cricket
Council (ICC) to PCB.
The main points of this initiative are
as follows:
(i) Letters regarding the establishment of
the women's wing have been dispatched to the organisers.
(ii) Special coaching sessions have been planned for the enhancement
of the quality of women's cricket.
(iii) Regional Development Officers are to help district organisations
arrange championships and provide grounds for practice.
(iv) All district associations have been asked to cooperate and select
a lady representative on their committees.
(v) Girls colleges and schools, women's universities and women's institutes,
are being informed of the opening of the women's wing and to participate
in women's cricket programmes.
(vi) All existing women's clubs and organisations are being requested
to cooperate with women's wing of PCB.
